My name is Gillian Naysmith, I am Mum to 2 wonderful children, Jaymi my Daughter is 10 years old and and Angel to her little Brother, Sam, 6 yrs old.  Sam has a diagnosis of Autism and is developmentally delayed.  Sam is non-verbal at the moment - well, apart from the word ‘No’ !

I began writing poetry as a way of dealing with the feelings and emotions that I was struggling with when I was told that the paediatrician was 99.9% sure that Sam had Autism.  The 5th June 2007, a date engraved on my memory, never to leave my mind.   I went through the same  roller coaster of emotions that any parent would, then I decided to read and learn and do everything I could to help my Son with his difficult journey.  I call it a journey, because Autism is a journey, it is not a destination...

I believe in my heart that Sam has taught me more than I have taught him and that his Autism has made me a better person and Mum.  I have more patience and understanding, more compassion and tolerance.  I have learned so much and wanted to share what I have learned in hope that it may help others through the hard times and hopefully give an insight into the lives of our children and families.  I hope that I am able to show that Autism doesn’t have to be a totally negative experience and that with the right guidance and help we need never feel alone.

I have written more books and will hopefully have them published soon - keep an eye on my news page and I will post details when I have them...  I have many ideas for the future and am always open to suggestions, please feel free to contact me via the e-mail address on the link above.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my site and for reading all about me and my plans, but mostly I thank you for your support and kindness.

With warm wishes

Gillian
